Metals Education

What’s Rose Gold? Platinum? Paladium…? Time to find out!

Below, we are going to go through the different types of metal that jewelry can be made in. We want our customers to understand the differences in Precious Metals so that you are confident in your Purchase Decision.

YELLOW GOLD

Yellow gold combines copper and silver alloys with pure yellow gold to maintain the naturally yellow appearance while increasing the hardness of the metal.

ROSE GOLD

Rose gold combines copper alloys with pure yellow gold to give the gold a pink hue while increasing the hardness of the metal.

WHITE GOLD

White gold combines with one or more white metal alloys with pure yellow gold and is plated in rhodium. This process gives the gold a white, silvery look and increases the hardness of the metal.

PLATINUM

Platinum is a premium upgrade. It is the most rare and durable of all the metals, making it the most valuable. Platinum prongs provide an extra sturdiness to secure high quality stones. It is a hypoallergenic material. Naturally white in appearance, platinum never yellows. Unlike white gold, it does not require routine plating to maintain its white appearance, but instead develops a patina over time.

SILVER

Palladium is in the platinum family but is a more affordable option. Like platinum it is a hypoallergenic, naturally white metal that never yellows. It is also a hard durable metal.
